I've been given $0.99 for something I wrote about TF2. It's the most money I've made by writing so far. But Associated Content's gears turn slowly. Here's something you can read right now:

http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2078761/why_the_sandman_is_the_worst_thing.html?cat=19

Gee, I actually wrote that. Compared to the links at the bottom of the page, it seems pretty trite. Oh well. It's a lot harder than you think! Repost as "My Life According to (Artist)"

1. Are you a male or female?
Happy Guy

2. How do you feel:
Ton o' Luv

3.
I'm a writer who hasn't been writing. There have been a few things, here and there - little one-offs I don't share with anybody I know. The pieces I did for the workers rights group (which I haven't seen in print, since I've flaked on them).

I feel like my brain is deteriorating. Talents and skills leaking out my ears, as if my head were some kind of fuel tank with a hole in it.

These days, it's all about the bloggers. The tweeters. The writers who are distilling the special something about the NOW.

There will always be other writers. I'm as excited as heck about the new Pynchon novel. The publishers even have a clip about it, possibly narrated by the reclusive author himself: http://www.poetv.com/video.php?vid=64207

But that's like living in a high-rise in the heart of a city. Comfortable, sure, if you can get it.

The blogs are a frontier. Just as much fighting, a lot more disorder, but a lot more space, too.

I won't be getting into either without some mental muscle built up. And this ol' LJ seems as good a place as any to do it. So look forward to big, honking entries from me about anything, every day. I'll be filling up your friends page like freeloaders at Burning Man, what what.

I suppose this is the Mikey Times. News of the Me. All the Myself that's fit to type.

Only, I'm not the one with news. Big entries from my friends. And I don't need Livejournal to tell me that they're going through some tough things, anyway. It really bothers me when people I care about are hurting. Maybe that is because I rely upon them to keep me sane. But nothing cures, heals or strengthens quite as well as Time (provided, of course, one isn't in one of those downward spiral things that only go deeper. But I'm mixing my metaphors and getting tangental). I am just plugging away, doing my small things until the big things come along.

Which is another problem I've been noticing in myself. My little things. I don't have something big I can do. My skills are limited and I haven't been honing them. I'm living the extended childhood of my generation, where a four-year degree is somehow a milestone and not a goal. Or maybe that is me complaining.

I have people, though. Oh boy, do I have people. Even when they are hurting, I know I am not alone. And that means a lot.

This is rambly, isn't it? Not the sort of thing that gets published or read by strangers. But it is a start.
Been back for less than 24 hours and I'm already flaking on people. Promise not to make it a habit. Things have been fun so far, and everyone's making the effort to spend time and give me an overall welcome. Looking forward to Tuesday and possibly other days as well.

Getting a lot of mixed feelings with no idea of where to direct them.
Ah, nostalgia.

I tried getting my camera to work. Turns out there's some software I need to put the footage onto my hard drive, and I can't find it. Oh well, if nothing else I can just learn to use a DVD ripper.

Tried reformatting the disc so now what was on there is lost forever to time. The notable thing was dark_bob_13 deadpanning that the real reason we went to Anime Expo was to see Space Chimps, and me babbling about TInkerbell after we were supposed to be ghost hunting.

I also have another disc, with footage of even longer ago, including treesandmagma before we were dating, as well as the back of fantasylite 's head, kevinbunny , and kit1508 (sorry, taken without your permission and has been deleted). There's also a pic of cinnicat taken with the night vision of him being... well, him.

Had uneasy dreams. One took place at Christmas, and as I frequently do, I went on a walk. The neighborhood was somewhat familiar. There was one of these parks sandwiched between the street and an artificial river that I've seen often in Long Beach. There was also a large house in the middle of the park, on fire, most of it already gone. I thought of calling someone, disturbed when I didn't realize quite where I was (though I imagined it being south of my Mom's house, opposite direction of Heartwell). Then a family showed up, and from the way they acted it was quite obvious they lived there. I left after that.

In another dream, I'm in a big building with a lot of water. I think it's an aquarium, though it looks more like an airport. The speakers are announcing something about the penguin exhibit becoming operational again after being declared unsafe. I'm ankle-deep in water. I go near a tiny swimming pool with a diving board, though really its no bigger than a bath tub, to get back a shoe I left. Turns out there's not just a shoe, but two complete outfits of mine, sitting in the water.
